France opens an entire museum dedicated to wine

On the 1st of June, Bordeaux opened its newest museum, modern, a one-of-a-kind institution dedicated to the French city’s most popular export: wine. Aptly dubbed La Cité du Vin, the $92 million, 144,000-square-foot complex is a premier destination for learning about, tasting, drinking, and buying wine. The new museum has been in the works since 2008 and took 80,000 hours as well as 1,000 tons of steel to build. The curvaceous gold building glitters in the sun and its 3000 sq metres of exhibits are equally sensory and sensational.

The institution expects as much as half a million visitors annually. Digital guides lead visitors around 20 different themes sections covering everything from vine cultivation, grape varieties and wine production to ancient wine trade, 21st-century wine trends and celebrated personalities.
