Alien: Covenant’s new trailer hints grim end for Prometheus character Dr. Shaw

Alien: Covenant is the highly anticipated sequel of Prometheus, which is the fifth instalment of the Alien franchise that was released in 2012. The new teaser trailer of the movie seems to reveal the fate of one of Prometheus’ main characters, Dr. Elizabeth Shaw, and it doesn’t bode well for her.

Die-hard fans of the franchise have always wondered what happened to Dr. Shaw, who was played by Noomi Rapace in Prometheus. At the end of the film, Dr. Shaw, along with the Android, David, set a course to find the missing engineers who created Earth.

Rapace is a confirmed cast member of the upcoming Alien: Covenant but up until the newest teaser trailer, she was missing from many of the marketing campaigns.

In the latest trailer, viewers can see Daniels (Katherine Waterson) frightened after seeing a dog tag that seems to belong to Dr. Shaw. Then, the scenes get darker and things get a whole lot more interesting.

A hologram appears, which shows the characters Dr. Shaw meeting her maker while being restrained. Then, an alien limb pierces her skin from behind.

Covenant will be more closely tied with the original Alien film that was released back in 1979 which featured Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) who managed to kill the first Queen Alien using a power loader both as armor and an attack weapon. It was because of this epic on screen battle that the franchise garnered a huge cult following, as well as numerous crossovers – take for instance, Star Trek x Aliens and a slew of video games.

One of the most popular crossovers created with Aliens at the forefront was when it tied up with the Predator franchise, which was turned into an arcade game by a Japanese company. Fast forward to recent times, and Alien: Isolation helped to further increased the popularity of the Alien franchise by winning a popular magazine’s Game of the Year in 2015.

Alien: Covenant will be released worldwide on May 19.
